Automated Robotic System for Motorsport Components
Design, build, and commissioning of a fully automated robotic cell for motorsport component manufacturing (including Formula 1 parts). The system was delivered as a modular, stand-alone unit integrating:
– two ABB robots operating in separate process zones with dedicated end-effectors,
– a three-station rotary indexing table with safety partitions,
– interchangeable motor-driven jigs for multiple component variants,
– integrated filtration, dust extraction, and cooling systems,
– a central PLC control system managing HMI, robots, sub-controllers, and safety interlocks.
Responsibilities:
– Full mechanical design in SolidWorks (3D/2D, BOMs, costing),
– Procurement management and supplier coordination,
– Supervision of assembly and system integration,
– Subcontractor leadership and project scheduling,
– Control logic concept development,
– ABB robot programming (RAPID) and integration with TwinCAT,
– Troubleshooting, performance optimisation, and production ramp-up.
